and how Chinese documents work
Chinese civil documentation follows its own logic: instead of long-form birth certificates, applicants typically submit notarial certificates (公证书) issued by a notary office, often already containing an internal translation — which USCIS may still require to be independently certified. Household registration booklets (户口簿/hukou), marriage certificates (结婚证), divorce certificates, and degree certificates each have standard formats our translators know character by character.
We translate Simplified and Traditional script, from mainland China, Taiwan, Hong Kong, and Singapore, with names romanized in standard Pinyin — or matching your passport's existing romanization, which is what keeps a USCIS file consistent.

Chinese documents authenticate through red official seals (公章), and a certified translation must identify each seal and its issuing authority — skipping them is the most common defect in amateur translations of Chinese records. Dates in ROC calendar format (Taiwan) are converted with the original noted. Business documents — licenses, contracts, bank statements for investor and work visas — get the same character-level precision.
