What Spain asks of

Spanish bureaucracy is precise: consulates and registries want U.S. documents apostilled and translated into Spanish, and for many procedures — non-lucrative visas, digital nomad visas, marriage registration, nationality files — they also want documents recently issued (commonly within 3–6 months). The most frequent U.S.-to-Spain set: FBI background checks (apostilled federally through the U.S. Department of State), state birth and marriage certificates, and academic credentials for homologación.
A candid note about translations: for procedures inside Spain, authorities often require a traductor jurado certified by Spain's Ministry of Foreign Affairs. For consular procedures in the U.S., requirements vary by consulate. We'll tell you honestly which translation your specific procedure needs — and provide ours where it's accepted.
